4WD capability
Prado offers advanced full-time 4WD utility for outstanding on-road and off-road performance at all times.
Every new Prado has full-time four wheel drive (4WD). Using an efficient motor switching method, it makes changing between low and high ratios a simple matter of turning a dial on your dash--and locking the centre differential for that extra bit of driving force is just as easy.
A torque sensing LSD (Torsen® LSD) in the centre differential provides optimum torque distribution between front and rear wheels, providing better traction and control during acceleration and turning, and, just as importantly, increasing your enjoyment of the drive.
Multi-terrain Select (MTS)
The Prado's Multi-Terrain Select System means almost any challenging off-road scenario can be handled with confidence.
With the Multi-Terrain Select system (MTS) on board, you can negotiate any terrain from mud and sand to rocks and moguls, knowing you’ve got the right amount of grip for the conditions.
MTS is a ground-breaking feature that regulates wheel slippage and automatically provides the maximum amount of traction for any given off-road scenario - all by pushing a button on the steering wheel.
Multi-Terrain Select is standard on the ZR and Kakadu off-road pack only.
Multi-Terrain Monitor^
Four onboard cameras* observe road conditions around the vehicle, providing a wide field of vision.
The Prado's Multi-Terrain Monitor feeds images from 4 onboard cameras to Prado’s EMV, showing the ground conditions around the vehicle and allowing you to check blind spots, reveal hidden terrain, and confirm your vehicle’s position and clearance. It features a versatile display mode which, at the push of a button, can switch between views.
Available on the Kakadu and ZR off-road pack only. The Cruise pack on ZR & Kakadu offers a similar system in the wide view front and left side monitor with 3 in-built cameras.
^The front, side and rear cameras do not provide a comprehensive view of the area surrounding the vehicle, and should only be used as an aid for viewing when parking/driving.
Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS)
Advanced suspension control system providing uncompromised performance both on-road and off-road.
The new Prado offers electronically modulated KDSS, a state-of-the-art suspension system. Off-road, it provides generous suspension travel allowing the body to remain stable on terrain. On-road KDSS reduces the roll and tilt in tight corners and absorbs minor bumps to create a smoother and more comfortable ride.
KDSS is standard on VX and Kakadu models.
CRAWL Control technology
An off-road cruise control system, CRAWL Control takes the fear out of tackling steep and slippery terrain.
CRAWL Control helps you manage difficult off-road conditions. It's an advanced technology that allows you to take your foot off the pedals and concentrate on the steering while CRAWL Control maintains a slow and steady pace.
CRAWL is standard on the ZR and Kakadu off-road pack only.
Adaptive Variable Suspension system
A suspension system that has been built for outstanding ride comfort, handling and stability.
The Prado’s Adaptive Variable Suspension system with rear electronically-controlled air suspension provides a comfortable ride tailored to suit driving conditions and driver preferences. The system also maintains optimal vehicle position when cornering and provides cruising stability in off-road conditions.
