Still at School? T3 Programme

If you are looking to build a career as an Automotive Technician, yet you would like to complete Year 12, then you should consider applying for a program called T3.

Toyota and TAFE NSW first established the T3 program in year 2000. Out of the 53 T3 students who joined up to be part of the first group, 51 had completed the course successfully and 47 had been employed by Toyota. This led to TAFE expanding its courses to four other states including the ACT.

T3 is in fact an acronym for Automotive Technology and Training for Tomorrow. This means that you get to work and learn at a participating T3 dealership whilst getting paid. The T3 program also counts towards your Higher School Certificate (HSC) making it even more desirable. The program used to be called Toyota, TAFE NSW and Technology but had expanded in 2003 due to its success.

A typical week for students involved in T3 involves spending three-and-a-half days at school. One day at a dealership as a paid employee in training and half a day at TAFE, studying relevant automotive trade or admin courses. This teaches T3 students not only about cars and mechanics but also about time and financial management. This is a very important skill to learn and develop whilst you are young so that you don't run into any sort of time/money management problems later in life.

T3 trainees will get to learn about the mechanics of cars and how to service the cars whilst getting paid at the same time. It is a win-win situation for both the dealership and the T3 trainee student as they get experience whilst the dealership employs theses students to work for them.

Through the T3 program the participating companies can select from a ready-made pool of qualified, smart and loyal apprentice who have been previously handpicked, or they can choose from a range of fully trained employees.
